Design director, digital editor, ad art director just three of five opportunities


Want to work for a company that still believes in print and is investing in its newspapers and its people? One of our Midwestern clients has several openings that involve news and advertising design and editing for several quality daily newspapers at their Illinois editing and production hub.

Unlike many newspapers, this family owned group is hiring and moving forward, both in print and online. We're in the middle of a complete redesign/makeover of three of their five newspapers, which include four quality dailies and a niche weekly. We're exploring new and better ways to tell stories and present information to readers. We're upgrading the news and ad design teams to improve quality and effectiveness.

Editorial design director
How would you like to lead a group of daily papers to new heights in their design and presentation? This client still believes in the power of print and is looking for a design director to improve their editorial design, visuals and content at all of their publications.

This is a new, added position.

As design director, you will help lead a team of about 15 designers who produce four dailies, a weekly and several magazines. While this is very much a hands-on job tackling daily page one or special project layouts, you will also be coaching and helping everyone on the desk improve their design and layout skills. We need an experienced designer who will consistently add value to the content produced in their newsrooms.
Are you ready?

Copy editor/designer

As a copy editor/page designer, you will work closely with one of the four daily papers, often taking the lead in how their page one, section fronts or inside pages will look and managing copy and editing for the pages you design. You'll work as part of a team in a great atmosphere.

While they would prefer experienced candidates, they are willing to consider recent journalism school graduates who have done some layout and editing while in college or since. Fluency in InDesign is strongly preferred.

Ad designer FILLED!

Great ads don't just happen. Talented ad designers create them. If you are that kind of designer, our client needs you! If you are fluent in Adobe's Creative Suite, love a fast-paced environment and you have experience creating advertising or marketing content, we'd love an opportunity to talk with you about this opportunity to join a great team.
Ad art director FILLED!

Are you ready to lead a team of ad designers to new heights? Do you love creating great new ideas for clients? Do you have a knack for good headlines and combining them with visuals that helps ads get attention?
This person might tackle campaigns for major accounts and review ads produced by others to try to take them up a notch. You might coach both designers and ad reps on what you need to deliver an effective ad for a client. You might help troubleshoot an ad that just isn't working.

Digital editor
One of this group's newspapers is seeking a key newsroom leader in charge of day-to-day management of content for their web site. You'll be creating, assigning and editing original content for the web, including photos and video. You will curate content from other sources; coordinate user contributors and commenting; optimize content for social media and help coach the rest of the newsroom on how to maximize social media impact for their content.
