We need an experienced PHP web developer. This is an opportunity to have a big impact and to be involved in a wide range of tasks, from direct customer support and site construction to new product development and system administration. We're also a leading print design and consulting firm in the newspaper industry and we’re all about making money on the web, so there are lots of neat things to learn. We’re located in East Providence, R.I.


We're flexible, but these are kinds the traits and skills we are looking for:

-- A high level (3+ years) of both front and back end development in a LAMP environment. PHP proficiency is particularly important. 

-- Sophisticated and attractive UX production expertise for desktop and mobile, using jquery, bootstrap and frameworks like backbone or angular.

-- Familiarity with both standard relational and noSQL databases.

-- Knowledge of open source, “devops” style deployment, management and monitoring solutions.

-- Experience building and integrating with REST APIs.

-- Solid Linux server administration abilities.

-- Our customer base is very professional but demanding so direct customer support is a big part of all our roles. The ability to quickly diagnose and fix problems, be able to listen and discuss issues with clients in lay terminology, and to stay calm and be reassuring under pressure is important.

-- A good communicator. Good at brainstorming and working with others.

-- Problem solver with strong initiative. We will need you to take ownership and manage projects with little direction.

-- Reliable person who is good at making deadlines.


While not required, you get bonus points for:

-- Experience developing in a content management system.

-- Knowledge or experience or at least an interest in the media industry, especially newspapers.

-- SEO and/or social content marketing knowledge.

-- WordPress plugin expertise.

-- Good writing/editing skills.

-- Knowledge of Ruby on Rails programming.

-- Experience in working with InDesign and/or Quark.
